Practical modalities

1. Climate

The climate is dry, the air is pure and healthy. The average temperature in April is about 25 degrees Celsius and overnight temperatures with an average low of 18 degrees. The average temperature in November is about 18 degrees Celsius. Overnight temperatures are generally a little cool with an average low of 13 degrees.

Please bring warm clothes for the evenings and nights. And bring your own sleeping bag. You have the possibility to sleep in a tent or under 10.000 stars. Matresses will be provided.

2. Food

The food and water is healthy and natural. The food consists of breakfast (bread, jam, cheese, honey, tea or coffee), lunch (salad, bread, a cold or a cooked dish, followed by fruit and tea), late afternoon tea or coffee with biscuits and peanuts, and dinner (a cooked dish, salad, bread, dates and tea). We have enough water bottles to drink.

Our travellers told us that the camping food was tasty, varied and healthy. Also suitable for people with a weak stomach. Warm meals are cooked with a pressure cooker.

3. Hygiene

Every morning you receive a bottle of washing water to wash your face, hands, feet and brush your teeth.

After some days there is a possibility to use a shower bag to wash your hair or body.

4. Safety

Safety is our priority. You travel with specialized local Tuareg guides who have more than 15 years experience with travellers. They are not only great companions, they also possess a thorough knowledge of the terrain. The Tuareg have a satellite phone they use in case of emergency.

Once we arrive in Djanet we register ourselves with the Office of the Cultural Parc of Tassili and with the local authorities. The borders of the south are also monitored by the Algerian military.

5. Connection and money access

In the desert you get the chance to disconnect from the world. It means there is no possibility to use your mobile phone or internet. In Djanet you can use your phone or find internet again, but there is no credit card or ATM access. So please bring cash (euros) with you for personal expenses. The exchange is easy.

7. Visa

All travellers need a visa to enter Algeria. To apply for an Algerian visa you need a letter of invitation from an Algerian contact or tourist agency. Badra Djait is the perfect person who can help you with this invitation. Please provide her with a clear scanned copy of your passport. Once she obtains your Algerian letter of invitation, you can take or send your passport to the Algerian embassy and have your visa stamped in your passport.

8. Practical

We have the tradition to organize an information evening before the journey, and a photo evening after the journey.
